At ArcelorMittal, sustainability is at the heart of our purpose: smarter steels for people and planet. For us, sustainability means creating long-term value by balancing the needs of people, planet and progress.
Steel is a material the world depends on — in buildings, transport, energy networks and everyday products. It is strong, long‑lasting and can be recycled many times. But recycling alone cannot meet global demand, and some types of steel still need very pure raw materials that recycled scrap cannot always provide today. This means steel will continue to be made both from iron ore and from recycled scrap. Our focus is on making both pathways lower in carbon and more resource‑efficient, while supporting a more circular use of materials over time.
Across our operations, we are developing steels and processes that can help reduce emissions and support areas such as renewable energy, modern mobility and efficient construction. We are also developing renewable energy projects in countries including India, Brazil and Argentina. These projects help supply low‑carbon electricity to our sites and contribute to the growth of local energy systems.
