Consumer packaging

ArcelorMittal steels are ideal for consumer‑packaged goods, enabling the production of lightweight, sustainable, and visually distinctive containers for food, beverages, aerosols, paints, and decorative products, as well as durable housings for automotive and truck oil filters.
ArcelorMittal provides an extensive range of products made from chrome plated or tin-plated steel to meet the needs of the industry, from cans to closures. Steel is an excellent, sustainable choice for consumer packaging, attributable to its outstanding manufacturability, functionality and recyclability. As a worldwide leader in steel production, ArcelorMittal has been at the forefront of steel packaging market for decades.
2-piece Cans – DRD (drawn-redraw) or D&I (drawn and ironed)
DRD cans are made from chrome plated or tinplated steel, and D&I cans from tinplated steel. Both require good drawing properties, tight thickness tolerances, clean steel properties, and good lacquer adhesion.
3-piece Cans (welded)
Produced from only tin-plated steel and are typically double reduced steel which offers higher strengths at lower thicknesses.
Sanitary Ends
Are made from chrome plated or tinplated steels. However, chrome-plated ends must be lacquered coated before use.
Easy Open Ends (EZO)
EZO ends are made primarily from tinplated steel but also chrome plated steel. Both require tight thickness tolerances, clean steel properties, and good lacquer adhesion
Caps & Closures
Made from chrome plated or tin-plated steel. Both require excellent drawing properties, tight thickness tolerances, and good lacquer adhesion.
Aerosol
Most components are made from tin-plated steel. Any chrome plated component must be lacquer coated. Aerosol domes require good drawing properties and aerosol bodies good strength to prevent bursting.
General Line
Made primarily from tinplated steel but also chrome plated steel and are typically on the heavier thickness side of steel packaging. Depending on application, they may require good drawing properties and/or tight thickness tolerances, and good lacquer adhesion.
