Hot strip mill at Lázaro Cárdenas

ArcelorMittal México’s Lázaro Cárdenas facility now includes a new hot strip mill with a capacity of 2.5 million metric tons per year that began operating in 2022. This mill produces hot‑rolled coil for domestic non‑automotive and industrial markets. Before the hot strip mill was added, the site produced only slab, supported by a direct reduced iron plant and four electric arc furnaces with a combined crude steel capacity of 4 million metric tons per year. With the new mill in place, the company can now convert a portion of its slab production into higher‑value hot‑rolled products while continuing to supply slab to other markets.
