Arcelor Calvert (formerly AM/NS Calvert) has been honored with the 2024 Environmental Stewardship Award by Partners for Environmental Progress (PEP), recognizing the innovative water recycling project.
ArcelorMittal Calvert is proud to announce that it has been awarded the 2024 Environmental Stewardship Award by Partners for Environmental Progress (PEP). This prestigious award recognizes ArcelorMittal Calvert's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, particularly through its innovative water recycling project.
Project Highlights
The award-winning project focuses on recycling cooling water from one tower to another. This initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Hot Strip Mill’s cooling water circuit team, the water and waste engineer, and the third-party process chemicals supplier, ChemTreat. The project included the installation of a new six-inch diameter stainless steel pipe, enabling the recycling of approximately 43 million gallons of industrial water annually. This effort saves around $76,000 in chemical usage each year and prevents the release of approximately 125,000 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions—the equivalent of the annual energy use of seven homes.
