ArcelorMittal México's main operation is located in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.

Our steel plant has a land area of ​​999.87 hectares. At the national level we have more than 8,000 direct collaborators and close to 50,000 indirect ones.

Our manufacturing facilities in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán produce rod, wire rod, billet and slab; In Celaya, Guanajuato, we produce rebar; in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, iron ore concentrates. We have a concession from the Lázaro Cárdenas dock that allows us to receive raw materials and export our products. Likewise, we have signed agreements with the Integral Port Administration (API) of Guaymas and Manzanillo that allow us to use their specialized docks to transport the pellet and iron ore concentrate, required in our process.

We operate the El Volcán mines in the community of Rosario Tesopaco, Sonora; Peña Colorada in Colima and the Las Truchas mining complex in Michoacán.

Within the line of flat products of ArcelorMittal Mexico are the steel slab for the manufacture of sheet for the production of cars, household goods; pipe and plate for the manufacture of gas and oil pipeline; pressure vessels, manufacture of ships of great draft and for heavy machinery, etc.

ArcelorMittal México has the technologies necessary to manufacture a huge range of ultra-low carbon steels, micro-alloyed steel, high carbon steel, and sour gas resistant steel, among others.

Long products include rebar for the construction industry from grade 42 to grade 80. In addition, we produce high, medium and low carbon wire rod for the drawing industry, as well as carbon billet for the steel industry.

New hot strip mill at Lázaro Cárdenas

A new 2.5 million metric ton capacity hot strip mill is nearly complete at ArcelorMittal Mexico.

The mill is located at the steelmaking campus in Lazaro Cardenas and is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2021.

The new mill will be producing hot rolled coil for the non-automotive, domestic and industrial use sectors. 

Until now, the plant has produced only slab via a direct reduced iron plant and four electric arc furnaces with a crude steel capacity of 4 million metric tons per year.
