John Cardwell
Chief Marketing Officer, Automotive, ArcelorMittal North America
John Cardwell was appointed chief marketing officer of automotive for ArcelorMittal North America in April 2025. He previously served as Director of Automotive Marketing & Strategy. John transitioned into marketing after serving as Automotive Sales Director, responsible for General Motors, Ford, Stellantis, and later BMW, Daimler, Volvo, and VW. Before becoming a director, he was Manager and Global Account Manager for Toyota.
Prior to that, John joined ArcelorMittal predecessor, Inland Steel, in 1988 after working at Chrysler for three years. He has held various management and leadership roles in quality, process engineering, operations, and corporate staff assignments before moving into customer technical service and sales.
John earned his Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from Purdue University and his MBA magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame. He is based in Southfield, MI, is married, and has one adult daughter.
